Recovery Assistant: Managing mirrored DASD
for Disaster Recovery
|
The RISK & The CHALLENGE: Disaster Recovery testing or declaration of a disaster can challenge even
the most experienced and technically oriented Operations staff. They must reconfigure many devices,
sometimes thousands. This often requires the use of a long sequence of complicated commands. In all
cases, when commands are issued, a simple keying error can put all enterprise data at risk. The
recovery process becomes even more difficult if any of the devices are in an exception state - requiring
corrective actions.
Recovery Assistant Automation: Recovery Assistant is a tool that can be used to automate the recovery process. It issues the
necessary commands to change the status of the hardware making up a mirrored DR solution. Throughout
the process, Recovery Assistant monitors the state of hardware and can respond to error conditions, unexpected
hardware status and other eventualities to select alternative logic paths as scenarios unfold.
Recovery Assistant WHAT-IF Simulation: Recovery Assistant includes a powerful Simulator so that cases can be
executed during testing - including difficult to reproduce hardware or communication link failures. One
enormous advantage that the Simulator offers, is that when new hardware is to be added, Recovery Assistant can
be updated to reflect the future state of the solution. This can be VIRTUALLY tested in the Simulator, in
advance of this equipment even arriving on site AND while still preserving current state protection.
Recovery Assistant is a must for companies who rely on mirrored DASD for Disaster Recovery.
