Q. Is BARS a software product?
A. No, BARS is process that uses a number of software tools that results in a Recovery Timeline estimate. Examples of the variables that make up the Timeline are:
.Declare Declare the Disaster -- within "n" hours of the actual event
.Hardware Setup Install Infrastructure to Accommodate New Servers, etc.
.Ship ATOD Wait for New Servers to be Delivered to Recovery Site
.Hardware Install Install Servers in Area Built for this Equipment
. TechToSite Wait for technical staff to reach recovery site
. WaitTech Wait for a technician to build a specific server
. ConfigSystem Configure the system -- physical
. Load OS Load Operating System from Release CD
. Cust OS Customize the OS; Fixes, Components, Products
. Install BUS Install BUS (Back Up Software) on recovery server(s)
. Wait Tapes Wait for backup tapes to arrive from tape vault
. BUS data Reload BUS Data so BUS database is current
. WaitForBUS Wait for BUS to complete
. WaitForDrive Wait for a tape drive to restore each server
. Restore OS Restore OS from backup tapes
. Load Data Restore Files and Databases from Tape using BUS
. Verify Data Verify Data is correct, synchronized, complete
. Verify Apps Verify the Applications are running properly
Note: The "Load Data" variables are generated using a simulation tool that uses a model of the restore configuration (hardware configuration and speeds) and applies information that is extracted from the backup software system describing the si ze, tape location and backup method used to create the current set of backup tapes.
